Between being greedy and nature’s law

I was shocked to read the article via Detik.com, on Thursday, May 3, 2012, under the title, “Parah! Kaya sawit, RI import minyak goreng dari Malaysia”, it was quoted analytically by the central statistics agency (BPS) that Indonesia has imported the cooking oil, 4.035 tons from Malaysia with value of U.S. $ 6,2 million.

It’s truly mind-boggling to me, why some wildlife-rich forest to be razed and reimbursed by a palm oil plantation, if the implementation doesn’t ensure citizens welfare of Indonesia for its 259.940.857 million citizens (it refers to home affairs ministry’s data, up to December 31, 2010)?

As we know that many forests have been damaged, overexploitation, and becoming a massive plantation, isn’t it a sad fact? A rich country in mining, and other natural resources, it is getting worse otherwise. Do we just think the benefit of forest recently, without realize what will happen for the foreseeable future?

Regarding the fate of our forests, last year 21 May 2011, it has announced the moratorium by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, but Indonesia Greenpeace analysis found there was no significant improvement protecting on biodiversity and law enforcement. As I cited in Jakarta Globe, saying that “Indonesia may have lost 5m hectares of forest cover since moratorium declared by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono”.

As I am a part of Indonesia citizen, what worries me a lot is, how it will be in the future, if we are not aware of it. Abolutely it’s far from safe!

For me personally, we need to take action on our dreams together, and be responsible for the earth every day, starting with little things.

At the end, greedy people who destroy the forest do not deserve to be a role model in society, beside that the biggest fear is when mother nature angry with us, like the proverb, what you sow, is what you reap. Hence, I try my best to keep a healthy relationship with nature, including Indonesia’s forests. For example, do not throw rubbish everywhere and use my own plastic bag to grocery stores.

That’s it for today!
